Lawmakers passed legislation Sunday to increase funding for school security and require armed security on every campus for school districts that can afford it. KXAN's Ryan Chandler reports live from the Texas Capitol.
Lawmakers negotiated into the final hours of the legislative session to try and pass a property tax cut before the midnight deadline. KXAN's Ryan Chandler brings us the latest on the negotiations, plus a look at another top priority that did pass Saturday: School safety.
For the Skeleton Crew, the Kemah, Texas-based team operates both day-sail trainings as well as multi-day excursions off shore and along the Texas coast. Collectively, the nonprofit has taken more than 250 veterans on sailing expeditions and has covered more than 27,000 nautical miles.
In a January 2023 report, the Sunset Commission described TCOLE as “toothless” and said it “had relatively limited authority to set or enforce anything but minimum licensure standards and had no meaningful role in setting or enforcing standards of conduct for law enforcement personnel or holding them accountable.”

According to the Texas Historical Commission, the state has around 14,00 cemeteries. Except for about 240 designated as perpetual care cemeteries with trusts set up for maintenance, there is no state agency that regulates them.
