Border agents nab two sex offenders in separate cases

EDINBURG, Texas (Border Report) — Border agents in SouthTexas arrested two convicted sex offenders in separate incidents during the weekend, Customs and Border Protection officials said.

Texas Parks and Wildlife officers encountered a Mexican man inside a wildlife refuge in Arroyo City on Sunday afternoon. Border agents from the Fort Brown station responded and determined that the man was in the country illegally and had two prior convictions for criminal sexual conduct out of Michigan. In both cases, a judge sentenced the man to one year behind bars.

On Saturday morning, agents from McAllen arrested a Guatemalan national near Penitas, Texas. The man, who entered the country illegally, had been convicted of lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 years of age in Los Angeles County. He was sentenced to one year of confinement and three years of probation.
