SALTON CITY, Calif. (AP) — U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested 26 immigrants discovered inside a tractor trailer at a Southern California checkpoint, authorities said.

Agents also arrested the 32-year-old truck driver, who presented a California driver’s license that turned out to be fake, the Desert Sun reported Thursday.

The semi trailer was searched Wednesday night near Salton City, officials said.

“The undocumented immigrants were locked and trapped inside this tractor-trailer in below 45-degree weather with no safety restraints,” Chief Patrol Agent Gloria I. Chavez said in a news release.

The group of immigrants included two juveniles, the newspaper said.

The driver was later identified as a Mexican national who was in the United States illegally, authorities said
