Aaron Bracamontes is a life-long border resident, working as the Digital Content Director for KTSM 9 News since 2018. He was born in El Paso and graduated from Coronado High School. He studied at the University of North Texas, where he got a degree in journalism.
Aaron returned home to start his career as a high school sports reporter at the El Paso Times. Over the next six years, he covered Northeast neighborhoods, local government, breaking news and specialized in regularly posting stories online.
After six years with the El Paso Times, Aaron was named the managing editor of the Carlsbad Current-Argus, where he led the newsroom in a transition to digital reporting and embracing a social media presence. Along with the daily coverage of the Southeast New Mexican town, the Current-Argus covered the boom-and-bust trends of oil drilling and the Department of Energy’s attempt to reopen its Waste Isolation Pilot Plant following a leak. During this time, the Current-Argus debuted a new website and won the New Mexico Press Association’s Breaking News Award for coverage of a plant explosion at the Texas-New Mexico border.
Aaron returned to the El Paso Times in 2016 to lead the Web team. Before leaving the El Paso Times, he also oversaw sports coverage and coached all reporters on best practices for Web and social strategy.
